MILLENNIALS . . . I raised two. I’m a Millennial Mom, aunt and cousin and a Gen Z aunt and cousin.

I’m fluent in parenting, passionate about the positive pursuit of potentiality and have a penchant for uplifting and inspiring the next generation.

I was always the go-to person for inspiration, advice, guidance and understanding. I’m embarrassed to admit it but when I was heading to college I didn’t know coaching (called counseling then) was something you could earn a degree and a living from. (I know, right!) Personally, I continued to be the “go to” for advice and guidance. Later on while teaching Reiki and Journal Writing I was discovering that people wanted more time to “talk”, to seek guidance, understanding, direction or sometimes just clarity. It was then that the notification went off in my brain that I’ve been doing this all my life. I’ve loved doing this all my life. So to further assist people personally and professionally, I decided to pursue becoming a Certified Coach.

But I didn’t start out on this path.

I’ve been writing since I was old enough to hold a pencil and a thought™ and teaching (an invisible class) since I got a double-sided chalkboard for Christmas as a kid. I’ve been coaching (previously called counselling) friends through life’s dilemmas since I was a teen and following faith not knowing there were other roads to travel. I’m a Usui Reiki Master (spiritual energy healing) and creator of the Write to Release™ through journal writing program.

I’m a lover of the arts – the fine, the performing, the healing and the culinary. I vividly remember the day I fell in love with the arts!

I’m a storyteller. I love stories. Hearing them. Telling them. Creating them. Sharing them. So I wasn’t surprised at one point to find myself studying with the Institute of Children’s Literature – studying writing for children and teens. Life is magical and stories were always around me. My maternal grandfather could captivate and hold me hostage for hours with his magical mysteries. My mom’s Sunday church pew discipline steered me head on to a love of the homily – when the priest would relate the day’s Bible readings to daily life through storytelling. And my dad could weave a story that took no short of forever to tell.

My first job was in a library. My first diary piqued my love of writing. My first story was written in invisible ink (shout out to cereal box prizes) and I still can’t find it. My first camera focused my perspective on the abstract and black & white. And a little toy piano introduced me to the art of plunking away at songwriting. I made my singing debut in the same place most performers get their start, in a little joint called “The Bathroom”. And later I spent two years studying country music songwriting with the Boston chapter of the Nashville Songwriter’s Association International.

By all accounts, I was destined for the arts, right?

Right.

But that’s not where I went.

So here I am. Back to writing, teaching and coaching – all through a spiritual lens.

You see, who we are is always there. Sometimes it gets pushed aside as we deal with reality. But the true reality is God made you who you are with the desires you are passionate about for a reason. He may allow us to wade in the waters of external expectation and practicality, and pursue things we think are proper, learn things we may NOT want to learn, but at some point, if we’re not pursuing the purpose God put us here for He WILL intervene. Our life will start falling apart.

But if we trust His interception and grab hold of His guidance, He will recalibrate our route and steer us back in the direction of pursuing and fulfilling what He created us to do.

I don’t think any of us gets to that place of Divine purpose without being bruised and banged around. But I do believe we get there – eventually.

How ‘bout you? If where you started out is different from where you’re trying to go, don’t be hard on yourself and don’t feel like the odd man out.

As you can see, we can take very strange routes to get where we’re going. It can be very frustrating. We can feel misplaced and burdened by life. But I’ve learned much along the way. And in hindsight, have no regrets. I firmly believe our passions burn for a reason and can be ignited as soon as we’re ready to bring their embers to a flaming success.

You know, sometimes we’re not really sure what we want to do. Merging into adulthood, the work world and our future selves can be exciting, confusing, and hey, let’s be honest, kinda scary in the beginning. Sometimes we start out on a path only to discover it’s really not where we want to be. And sometimes we’re in a hurry to accomplish what we’re trying to do. And although this may sound a bit cliché, but life really is a journey. What you experience along your route is just as important as actually arriving. You learn a lot about yourself, about life and even the intricacies of what it is you are trying to do by traveling with an open mind.

I believe everyone knows what they want to pursue. The thing we have a burning passion for is not a day dream or a fantasy. It’s a burning desire ignited in us by God. It’s what He put us here to do. If you look at it differently, it’s really our RESPONSIBILITY. That’s why we feel so compelled to fulfill it.

This philosophy got me where I am today.
